3-Day Clarens, Golden Gate National Park & Fouriesburg Experience
Explore the charm of South Africa’s Eastern Free State with ACT Tours on a 3-day journey through Clarens, Golden Gate National Park, and the scenic Fouriesburg region. This itinerary blends spectacular natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and small-town hospitality.
From sandstone mountains and wildlife viewing to Basotho history and quaint village streets, this short escape offers a refreshing blend of relaxation, discovery, and breathtaking scenery.
Day 1: Boksburg to Clarens
Your journey begins early morning at The Towers Centre, East Rand Mall, where you meet your ACT Tours representative and fellow travellers.
Depart Boksburg and enjoy a relaxed drive through the picturesque Free State countryside. En route, stop in Heilbron for a coffee break (own account), a perfect opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the quiet rural atmosphere.
Continue onward to Clarens, arriving around midday. Check into your accommodation and take time to settle in before heading out to explore.
Clarens, fondly known as the “Jewel of the Free State,” offers art galleries, boutique shops, cafés, and scenic surroundings. Enjoy lunch in town (own account) and spend your afternoon discovering the village at your leisure.
Return to your accommodation in the early evening for dinner and time to unwind in preparation for the following day’s explorations.
Day 2: Golden Gate Highlands National Park & Basotho Cultural Village
After breakfast, depart for Golden Gate Highlands National Park, known for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, grassy plains, and abundant wildlife.
Enjoy a self-drive exploration through the park, keeping an eye out for antelope, zebras, and the many bird species that inhabit the area. The dramatic landscapes provide excellent photographic opportunities.
Continue to the Basotho Cultural Village to learn about the heritage, customs, and traditions of the Basotho people.
Explore the homestead layout, traditional huts, artistic crafts, and daily practices that reflect centuries of cultural identity in the region.
Return to Clarens in the late afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 3: Clarens to Fouriesburg (Destiny Castle) & Return to Boksburg
Following breakfast, check out of your accommodation and travel to Fouriesburg.
Enjoy a visit to Destiny Castle, a notable landmark offering views of the surrounding countryside. Explore the historic architecture and take in the peaceful setting before departing.
Continue into Fouriesburg for lunch (own account). Afterwards, begin your return journey to Boksburg, pausing en route for a brief refreshment stop (own account).
Arrive back at The Towers Centre, East Rand Mall in the early evening, concluding your Free State experience.
