A Journey into the Heart of Nature and Heritage
Discover one of South Africa’s most remarkable natural landscapes with ACT Tours as we guide you into the peaceful Cederberg Wilderness. This 5-day experience combines dramatic mountain scenery, ancient cultural heritage, unique flora, refined wines, and warm hospitality.
From Rooibos plantations and sandstone formations to charming countryside towns and star-filled evenings, this itinerary invites you to disconnect from the fast pace of city life and reconnect with nature’s rhythm.
Day 1: Johannesburg to Cederberg Wilderness
Meet your ACT Tours representative and fellow travellers at OR Tambo International Airport for your morning flight to Cape Town International Airport.
Upon arrival, collect your luggage and meet your dedicated ACT Tours driver who will accompany you throughout your journey. Begin your scenic drive north toward the Cederberg Mountain Range, a journey of approximately 3½–4 hours.
En-Route Highlights
Travel along the picturesque N7, passing through charming farmlands, citrus orchards, and rolling wheat fields.
Pause at Piekenierskloof Pass for sweeping valley views and excellent photo opportunities.
Enjoy a relaxed lunch stop at Hebron Farmstall & Restaurant or Carmién Tea Shop, both offering Rooibos-inspired meals and regional flavours (own account).
Arrival in the Cederberg
Continue toward the Cederberg Wilderness, where striking sandstone cliffs, rugged peaks, and quiet valleys herald the start of your retreat.
Arrive and check into your accommodation, where you will be welcomed and given time to settle into your mountain surroundings.
Enjoy dinner at your accommodation followed by an evening under the clear Cederberg skies, regarded as some of the best stargazing conditions in South Africa.
Day 2: Culture, Heritage & Rooibos Discovery
After breakfast, visit the renowned Clanwilliam Rooibos Tea House for an immersive guided experience. Learn about the origins and production of Rooibos, from harvesting to processing, and sample a variety of tea blends.
Visit the Tea House store to explore beautifully packaged teas and Rooibos-inspired gifts.
Continue to the Clanwilliam Museum housed in the historic Old Gaol (1808). The exhibits highlight the history of the San and Khoi, early settlers, and the origins of the Rooibos industry, offering fascinating insight into the region’s past.
Return to your accommodation for a relaxed afternoon.

Day 3: Nieuwoudtville – The Bulb Capital of the World
After breakfast, travel north to Nieuwoudtville, known for its remarkable biodiversity and floral displays.
Visit the Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower Reserve. During peak flowering season (August–September), the countryside transforms into a spectacular display of vibrant colours. Outside flower season, the reserve still offers unique walks featuring quiver trees and endemic plant life.
Stop at the Nieuwoudtville Bulb Nursery to explore the area’s remarkable collection of indigenous bulbs and succulents.
Enjoy a light lunch or tea at local establishments such as Die Blouhuis Restaurant or Thyme & Again Coffee Shop, celebrated for their homemade dishes and Rooibos-inspired treats (own account).
Return to your accommodation for dinner and a restful evening.
Day 4: Klawer Wine Cellar – The Essence of Cederberg
After breakfast, depart for Klawer Wine Cellar, situated at the gateway to the Cederberg and Olifants River wine region.
Enjoy a premium wine-tasting experience featuring seven distinguished wines from the Klawer and Cederberg collections. A cheese platter of artisanal cheeses, preserves, and crackers accompanies your tasting and enhances the regional flavours.
Browse the cellar shop for your preferred wines and local produce before returning to your accommodation.
Spend your final evening enjoying a farewell dinner, reflecting on the distinctive character and beauty of the Cederberg.
Day 5: Farewell to the Cederberg
Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation surrounded by quiet mountain scenery. Spend a final peaceful morning strolling the grounds, enjoying a cup of Rooibos tea, or taking in the tranquillity.
Begin your return journey to Cape Town, pausing en route for refreshments before continuing to Cape Town International Airport for your return flight to Johannesburg or onward travel.
